Description Through Mary the Lord made feasible the presence of Jesus on earth and the salvation of man. Through the acceptance of her “role” as the Mother of Christ and her participation in the earthly martyrdom of her Son, the Virgin represented the human race, cooperated with God and became the link or intercessor between God and humans. Mary the Graceful, Mary and the Child, Sweet-kissing Mary, Mary the Liberator, Mary the Intercessor; orthodoxy commemorates the Virgin in this dimension as well and adds this characteristic to the long list of adjectives and names by which she is mentioned and celebrated. The icon that has been the source of inspiration of the hagiographer is located at the Monastery of Barlaam, Meteora, and is a painting of the 16th century.
