Description Saint Panteleimon came from Nicomedia in Asia Minor. He lived and martyred during the reign of Maximian (286-305 A.D.). He was trained in medicine and was initiated to the Christian faith by Ermolaos the Elder, a priest of the Church of Nicomedia. He was known for his miracles by the power of his faith and these miracles became the reason he martyred and died, after he had persuaded all the soldiers present to his martyrdom to believe in Christ. Once the executioner thrust his sword to cut off the head of the Saint, the sword bent and the iron melted like wax. It is said that milk spurt from his wound and the olive tree he was chained to, bloomed unexpectedly.

Silkscreen icon with silver frame and wooden casing, locally gilded; the picture is accompanied by a wooden stand.
