Description A patron and protector of Zakynthos, Saint Dionysius is one of the most popular saints of Orthodoxy. He received the monastic blessing at the age of 20 and was named Daniel. Two years later he became abbot of Strofades monastery, in Zakynthos and a year later he was ordained a priest. In 1577 he was ordained Bishop of Aegina and performed significant charitable work. Twenty two years later he resigned due to poor health and returned to Zakynthos. He died at the age of 75. Three years after his burial in the church of Saint George of Strofades, it was discovered that his relics were intact. The relics remain as such to this day and are kept in the church of the Saint in Zakynthos.
