Description He was born in Tarsus of Cilicia to Jewish parents. His father was a Roman citizen and probably a Pharisee in religion. Paul the Apostle, studied the Greek language and came into contact with Greek civilization and contemplation. He became a student of Gamaliel and studied Jewish Theology thoroughly. He was referred to as a harsh persecutor of Christianity, until Christ Himself appeared to him on his way to Damascus. There he was convinced that Jesus had resurrected and ascended to heaven as the Son of God. He wrote half of the New Testament Books and became an advocate and supporter of the universality of Jesus’ teaching. According to tradition, Paul was beheaded (66 AD or 68 AD) without undergoing torture, because the law forbade the torturing of Roman citizens. He is regarded as the first Christian theologian, the first after the One.
