Description A fisherman, like his brother Andrew, Peter lived in Capernaum and was married. He was present at the wedding at Cana and followed Jesus along with His other disciples. Peter is said to be the one who invited the other Apostles to choose the person who would replace Judas, after the Ascension of Jesus. Peter and the other eleven Apostles, on the day of Pentecost spoke to the gathered crowd and baptized 3000 Christians. He founded the Church of Antioch; baptized and ordained Bishops, traveled to Sicily and ended up in Rome, where he ordained Saint Lino, the first Bishop of the Roman capital. He stayed in Rome to be crucified, instigated by Christ Himself, who appeared before him marching to Rome with a cross. On the spot of his martyrdom and death (64 AD or 67 AD) a magnificent Basilica was built by Constantine the Great. His tomb is located below the central Chancel Table of the Cathedral of St. Peter in the Vatican.
