Description Saint Christopher lived during the time of the Empire of Decius, when Bishop of Antioch was the Martyr and Saint Babylas. He is referred to and often depicted as the Dog-headed or Cynoscephalae, because of his origin from a region in Asia where people are often described as dog-headed, due to their lack of education. Saint Christopher, born as a Reprovos, was captured as a prisoner during a war and was transferred to Antioch, where he was baptized Christian by the Martyr Babylas. It is said that he used to pass hikers from one bank of a river to the other, Christ being one of them. His conversion to Christianity of the Roman soldiers who were sent to arrest him, and also of the two women who were ordered to seduce him, was the reason for his decapitation.
