Description The icon of Mary Praying is one of the five images that decorate the temple of the Church of Protaton in Karyes, on Mount Athos. The entire project is called the Great Invocation and is the artwork of Theophanes of Crete, between 1540 and 1544 AD. The other four images are known as Christ the Pantocrator, John the Baptist, Archangel Michael and Archangel Gabriel.

Silkscreen icon in carved wood with fadeless metallic frame; the icon is decorated with enamel and is locally gilded.
