Description The depiction of the Virgin Mary breastfeeding Jesus was particularly widespread in the Eastern Orthodox and the Western Church. Inspiration for its creation was the narration in the Gospels of the birth of the Christ. The most important icon of Mary Breastfeeding is located in the Holy Monastery of Chilandriou on Mount Athos. It was brought from Palestine in the 13th century, where it was painted and belonged to the Lavra (in the Byzantine period, they were the cells of the anchorites) of St. Savvas the Sanctified. The Serbian ruler Stefan Nemanja brought it along with the Virgin Mary Three-Handed (Tricherousa) to Mount Athos, to the monastery he had founded.

Silkscreen icon in carved wood with fadeless metallic frame; the icon is decorated with enamel and is locally gilded.
