Description The Man of Sorrows icon illustrates in a single scene, the Crucifixion, the Lamentation and the Entombment. The image depicts the essential humility of Jesus, in later syntheses, Mary or Mary and John are depicted mourning on the right and left side of Christ. It is not about an external or altruistic behavior, but an internal realization of life as an expression of love and fellowship. Even the Lord’s Resurrection was held by way of humility. The icon is a symbol of the Passion, which leads from humility to death, for the sake of His people. Jesus' last cry symbolises the completion of his assignment on earth culminating in his victory on Earth and his subsequent long journey towards His union with the Father. The original icon of the “Man of Sorrows” is dated back to the 16th century; it is attributed to the Cretan School, made of wood and egg tempera and is located in the Iberian Monastery on Mount Athos.

Silkscreen icon in carved wood with fadeless metallic frame; the icon is decorated with enamel and is locally gilded.
