Description The icon is a “realistic” depiction of the moment of Lazarus' Resurrection, on the rocks outside the city, where Lazarus grave was located, in contrast with other icons of the Ascension or the Resurrection of Jesus where the main characteristic is symbolism. It constitutes a characteristic sample of the Cretan School of hagiography. The illustration of the moment communicates the physical side of the miracle, with an aim to make it accessible to human perception and highlights the words of the Lord “I am the Resurrection and the Life”. The original icon that became an inspiration for the hagiographer is the Resurrection of Lazarus, located in Stavronikita Monastery on Mount Athos, made of wood and egg tempera by Theophanes the Cretan in 1546 AD.

Silkscreen icon in carved wood with fadeless metallic frame; the icon is decorated with enamel and is locally gilded.
