Description Saint Sophia, along with her three daughters, Saint Elpida, Saint Pisti and Saint Agapi are a symbol of faith and courage for the Church. They lived during the reign of Hadrian (117 – 138 A.D.), originating from a rich noble family from Italy. Hadrian initially tried to make them renounce their faith in Christ using mild means but then resorted to incredible violence. He killed one daughter after another with horrible tortures; the 12-year old Pisti, the 10-year old Elpida and 9-year old Agapi. He let their mother bury them and endured her martyrdom alive. Once she buried her daughters, she handed her spirit over to the Lord.

Silkscreen icon in carved wood with fadeless metallic frame; the icon is decorated with enamel and is locally gilded.
